Maori Cultural Museum

On our first day in New Zealand we went to the Maori Cultural Museum. The Maori people are like our Native Americans in some ways. They are the native indigenous people who migrated here thousands of years ago. A Maori guide placed capes of honor on our shoulders to wear while she took us around the exhibits. These people made beautiful carved meeting houses, boats and weapons. Some of the guides danced for us before hand. The ones I liked the best were The Haka and the Poyo Dances. At the end of the tour we had to dip our hands into holy water which were the tears of their ancestors. I really enjoyed my first day in New Zealand learning about the Maori.

  1. How exciting to see what the museum was like. Tell Grandma that she did a good job dancing.
    Keep these interesting posts coming.

  2. Tell Grandma Beth she was a beautiful Maori doing their native dance. What do you call the rope and pompom looking thing she was swinging? She's a real trooper!
